the definition of insanity has been posited by alcoholics anonymous as “repeating the same action over and over again, hoping to achieve different results”.
i think it ought to include continuing an action based on the belief in information which contradicts objective reality.
i don’t want to work anyone else’s program for them, but i think someone needs to go to a meeting.

I don’t agree with AA, sorry, but I’ve seen it fail too many times and to me it’s another addiction that turns people into automatons and makes them so fecking smug about how clean they are, when in fact, most aren’t. I’m a DIY person, if you can’t clean up your own act, then something’s wrong. I’ve always loathed crutches and that’s what AA is to me.
If I’ve offended anyone, it wasn’t on purpose.

it’s hard to offend me. but don’t call me scarface!
seriously -
well, i haven’t been to a meeting in quite some time, but i do have this to say:
(1) george bush needs an intervention
(2) i think you’re both a little bit right and a little bit wrong about the “clean up your own act” thing. on the one hand, no one but the addict can make the decision to do what needs to be done to get sober. it’s their responsibility and no one can make the choice for them.
but none of us can make it alone. if you do know an addict who has made it without help of some kind, i’d like to know who they are so i can send them all my money and become their student. maybe you can do it without joining a group or believing in a higher power, but you need somebody. something outside yourself. that’s just the human condition, in my humble opinion.
